December events: Experience a quintessentially English Christmas

Much Wenlock, Shropshire

Visit the small market town of Much Wenlock for festive trinkets, handmade gifts and sweet and savoury snacks at its Christmas Fayre.

Much Wenlock is said to be the inspiration for the modern day Olympics thanks to Dr William Penny Brookes - the promoter of physical education and personal betterment - who lived and worked in the small town. And over Christmas you can enjoy the merriment of the town he enjoyed as a child through their annual Christmas Fayre.

There are over 100 stalls dedicated to Christmas merchandise, and entertainment in the form of a saxophone quartet, a male voice choir, a brass band, theatre productions and a partridge in a pair tree (well, maybe not the latter). And it's all rounded off with a candlelit procession down the High Street.
