Master your bread-making skills at Blackfriars Restaurant

Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear

Visit England’s oldest dining room in Newcastle and leave with some expert cooking skills from a master baker.

Housed in a former Dominican friary, Blackfriars Restaurant and Banquet Hall is thought to be England’s oldest dining room, dating back to 1239.

Every month the restaurant runs a series of popular cooking courses, everything from ‘cooking for beginners’ to ‘dinner party cooking’.

Blackfriars’ Beginners Bread Making course shows you just how easy it is to make proper artisan bread that is both nutritious and delicious.

The one-day course uses locally milled stone ground flours to produce a number of breads: a simple sourdough loaf, rustic soda bread, Northumberland millers’ loaf, Roman spelt bread, a fruit loaf and something sweet.

Anything you don’t eat on the day can be taken home, along with the all important recipe cards!
