Not just any old pork pie...
A
s all good foodies know, anything with ‘ye olde’ in the title is bound to taste good, right? Well it’s certainly true as far as this place is concerned; they’ve been rustling up tasty pork pies since 1851. And not just any pork pies, either – bona fide Melton Mowbray ones.
It’s all to do with the uncured pork that’s packed into that crumbly pastry – and the guys at Ye Olde Pork Pie Shoppe (AKA Dickinson & Morris) are the only ones left in town who are still doing it the genuinely ‘proper’ way.
They don’t just sell pies, though. If you’re feeling peckish, why not bag yourself some sausages, chutneys and cheeses while you’re here – or go all out and order a hamper.
If you’re worried about your waistline, there’s no need. After tucking into a pork pie or three, you can burn off the calories with the kids at Conkers Assault Course, an hour down the road.
The challenge is to complete it in under 10 minutes – the record being four.
Mind you don’t get a stitch.
