July events: Open Studios Isle of Wight
Newport, Isle of Wight
It’s a rare opportunity to be invited into an artist’s creative space, but in the Isle of Wight, they’re happy to fling open their doors every July for you to come and take a look.
The Isle of Wight Arts has been running its Open Studios event for more than 10 years, highlighting the island’s fantastic arts community.
The first weekend of events is usually based in West Wight, with the Quay Arts Centre in Newport providing a good starting point to visit exhibitions housed in everything from church halls and galleries to artists' houses. Download the event’s yearbook (available through the site in June) for a handy map highlighting all the locations, with opening times and directions.
Stick around for the following weekend and Open Studios moves to East Wight, reflecting a completely different range of arts and crafts in contrasting locations. All destinations including the Quay Arts Centre are completely free to enter during this event, but remember to bring your wallet as you just might fall in love with a piece of art while exploring.
